Vinita Srivastava is the Culture & Society editor of The Conversation Canada, working with scholars to bring together academic research and journalism with a critical race theory lens. Previously she was Assistant Prof. of Journalism at Ryerson University and the Director of Verse City, a multimedia bootcamp for marginalized youth. She was a Research Editor at the New York Times Magazine, the Staff Writer for Savoy and Senior Editor at Impact Magazine. She has conducted multi-year oral history research projects on racism and resistance in print and visual media. She has also reported from Toronto, New York, India and South Africa for A. Magazine, the Village Voice, Essence, VIBE and WBAI Radio. From 2001-2005 she launched and ran *BrownSugarOnline, North America's first online magazine for South Asian women.
