Regional analyst, correspondent, and columnist. Former Vaclav Havel Journalism Fellow at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFERL) and Central Asia Azerbaijan Fellow at George Washington University. Main areas of interest include human rights, advocacy, press freedom, and more recently emergency assistance to threatened voices. Originally from Azerbaijan, currently based in Istanbul where I continue covering Azerbaijan for OpenDemocracy and Eurasianet. Also currently affiliated with Index on Censorship, International Partnership for Human Rights and Freedom House. OTF fellow starting January 2017.
