President
Washington, DC
As Senior Vice President of New Initiatives, Sharon Moshavi oversees new project development, innovation and impact at ICFJ. She has led the design of projects ranging from newsroom transformation efforts in India to investigative reporting projects in Latin America to global efforts that spur innovations in fact-checking and health reporting.

She directed the publication of ICFJ’s 2017 survey on the State of Technology in Global Newsrooms, and provides oversight of ICFJ’s International Journalists Network (IJNet), a multilingual news service for journalists.

When she first joined ICFJ in 2007, she served as digital media director. She began ICFJ’s online training efforts, and started building early citizen journalism networks in Malaysia and Egypt.

Before coming to ICFJ, Moshavi worked as communications manager at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, helping to promote and launch the first News Challenge. That was when she realized that this thing called digital technology was transforming journalism and the world.

Her love of journalism and appreciation for the amazing work local reporters do under trying circumstances was cemented during more than a decade spent reporting internationally. She was based in New Delhi, Jerusalem and Tokyo, and reported from more than a dozen countries.

She covered stories ranging from North Korea’s nuclear ambitions to Hamas’ rise in Gaza to India’s economic reforms. She has written for The Boston Globe, Newsday, BusinessWeek, Forbes, The New Republic and U.S. News & World Report, among others. She also produced radio documentaries and essays for NPR, KQED, BBC and CBC. Follow her on Twitter @smoshavi.
