I work in cryptography and quantum computing. I am concerned about information and systems being protected against quantum attacks. While such attacks may be years away, it takes many years to design and deploy new cryptography reliably. We might not be ready in time, especially if protecting information with a long shelf-life. The consequences of being unprepared would be systemic and devastating.
On the other hand, pro-actively designing "quantum-safety" into our systems offers a unique opportunity to build a more robust foundation to our IT systems that is more ready and able to respond to other unexpected attacks.
