Understanding Freedom of Expression in Southeast Asia: Internet Freedom and Online Censorship

This session will discuss the current challenges that limit the right to freedom of expression in Southeast Asia, a region where any form of public space is being restricted with rights to freedom of expression and access to information being rolled out in the majority of the countries. This roll-back seeks to weaken civil society and is part of a broader regional roll-back on democratic freedoms. A better understanding of the causes and challenges of these closing spaces is necessary to devise effective policy and for advocacy strategies.
