Join a worldwide effort to get Palestine visible and on the map across all platforms.
Using the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Task Manager, participants will learn how to use geographic information science (GIS) mapping techniques to put roads, buildings, residential and agricultural areas on OpenStreetMaps, digitizing high-resolution imagery in real time to identify Palestinian villages. We’ll teach the audience how to map and as they do, our presenters will describe their work and describe the advocacy needed to keep the village safe from demolition.
We will encourage mappers to work in teams of 2, to develop a discerning eye for map imagery and inspire discussion. Here’s the agenda:
1) Go to www.OpenStreetMap.org to set-up your OSM account;
2) How to do mapping —a short tutorial asking the mappers to complete a practice run;
3) Distribution of assignments: begin mapping with coaches coming by to help;
5) An update on efforts to map Palestinian villages;
6) Next Steps; How to advocate locally, worldwide, to keep the villages standing.
