Extreme Vetting: Tools & Troubles

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

In this session, we will evaluate new and emerging programs that use social media for “extreme vetting” of visitors and immigrants to the United States, both during the visa process and after their arrival in the United States. The session will address the technical feasibility of recent government proposals. Speakers will highlight the impact of such initiatives on immigrant and refugee populations, as well as privacy and free speech risks. The session will conclude with a discussion of strategies to push back against the discriminatory and dangerous use of algorithms in this context, with the goal of generating additional ideas from the audience.
