Former Vaclav Havel Journalism Fellow at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFERL), Central Asia Azerbaijan Fellow at George Washington University, Prague Civil Society Fellow, and Open Technology Fund Information Controls Fellow. The main areas of interest include digital authoritarianism and its implications on human rights and press freedom as well as the safety of journalists online and platform accountability. Originally from Azerbaijan, she is currently based in Istanbul, where she continues her journalism work and works as regional editor for South Caucasus and Turkey at Global Voices. Previous work can be found on Al Jazeera, Eurasianet, CODA, Open Democracy, and Radio Free Europe, with a byline on CNN International.
